It is a great privilege teaching a beginning piano student. As they navigate the keyboard for the very first time I can almost hear the neurons firing as they think through each step!!!

Lucky for them this method doesn’t require them to concentrate on written music at the same time as playing in the initial stages. That would be way too many thought processes for a child!

Within a very short time I am amazed at the dexterity they develop. Naturally it is undeniable that the process of learning the piano is beneficial in terms of overall learning and brain development. We all know this intuitively but I thought I would give you some cold hard evidence as to why your child would not only benefit in many areas from learning the piano but have a heap of fun along the way.

  1. “Children who took piano lessons scored 30% higher in spatial-temporal reasoning ability (necessary for development of higher mathematics skills).” – Rauscher et al., 1997
  2. “Early music training dramatically enhancing children’s abstract reasoning skills. These findings indicate that music uniquely enhances higher brain functions required for mathematics, chess, science and engineering.” – Neurological Research, Feb 28 1997; Frances rauscher, PH.D., gordon Shaw, Ph. D University of California, Irvine
  3. “Music enhances the process of learning. The systems they nourish, which include our integrated sensory, attention, cognitive, emotional and motor capacities, are shown to be the driving forces behind all other learning.” – Konrad, R.R., Empathy, Arts and Social Studies, 2000
