I was wondering if you have heard of an app called Audible. If not, and you like books, then go get it. It’s the best thing for busy people as you can be listening to a book as you do other things. It has made housework SO much more enjoyable.

Anyway, I am currently listening to a book call ‘Limitless’ by Jim Kwik. It’s about how we can best upgrade our brain to learn and easily recall information. One of the things he talks about is how we can heavily rely on technology to do our remembering for us. For example, I’m sure many years ago you would have had many phone numbers that you could easily recall because we used to actually have to dial a phone number to connect. Now all we have to do is push a button. I love that the program we teach here at Rhythm and Tunes has memory components built into it and I have many conversations with students about how they don’t have a ‘bad’ memory they just have an ‘untrained’ memory. Then we get to work training their ability to memorise music easily and quickly.

Jim also discusses how easily distracted we have become as a result of using screens. What really struck me was his comment about how whenever we pick up our phone, iPad, whatever device we might be using we are actually training our brains to be distracted. I had never thought about it like this before. He’s right!

I know it sounds perfectly obvious but it has made me think about how unintentional I can be with technology. Hmmm, time for some changes…

How are you keeping your brain healthy?

It really is just like any other part of our body, if you don’t use it you lose it. Why not join me for a Free ‘Reignite Your Love Affair with the Piano’ Introductory session where I will walk you through the key components of how we teach here and how you can build up a repertoire of 30 – 50 songs from memory.

Just email joanne@rhythmandtunes.com.au with your best contact number and I will be in touch with all the details of how to link into the session.
