I was thinking about my wedding day recently.

As you do.

I recall being driven to the church listening to ‘Chapel of Love’ by the Dixie Cups. As we passed the botanical gardens, I had a surreal experience whereby an overarching sense of peace seemed to descend from above, or somewhere, and I just knew in the depth of my soul I had made the right decision.

Fast forward 22 years and we have certainly had our challenges but, so far, we haven’t given up on the dream of a healthy and vibrant relationship with each other. I find myself returning to that moment of peace that I felt back then as confirmation of my ‘why’ I entered into a lifelong commitment.

Every so often, I believe it is a valuable exercise to revisit our reasons for embarking on a particular project or activity and test to see that it is still lighting us up, despite the normal ups and downs of any commitment.

What lights you up?

This is such a powerful question. Why don’t you go and grab a pen and paper, right now, write that question at the top of the page and do some free writing on this topic. You may be surprised at your answers. I know when I did it just a few days ago I realised I wasn’t participating in many of the activities that I listed. Very eye-opening!

Being out in nature lights me up.

Walking on the beach lights me up.

My first sip of coffee in the morning lights me up!

Teaching music lights me up ENDLESSLY!

We just know, don’t we?

We can kid ourselves all we like with all sorts of avoidance techniques but we always know what will make us feel

FULFILLED

PUMPED

FIST PUNCHING THE AIR

ON TOP OF THE WORLD

What is your why?

Are you prepared to embark on this journey with me if returning to the piano has been on your mind for nothing less than 1000 years? haha, well perhaps not that long, but as long as you can remember.

Are you ready yet?

Every time you receive one of these emails, that little niggle, that voice in the back of your mind says

“Maybe, just maybe I could play again”

YES.YOU.COULD

In fact, I don’t really know why you have put it off for this long, as you are certainly capable!

Life is too short.
