Just thought I’d share something you may not know about me. Reason being I think it explains why I do what I do and why I’m so passionate about sharing the GIFT of music.

So by now you DO know that I LOVE music. That I believe it soothes and heals the soul.

It educates. It’s gentle and fierce. Passionate. Haunting. Motivating. Inspiring.

It incites love. Movement. Stillness.

So here’s a bit about me. The first part in a series that I’m moved to share with you.

16 years ago about this time I was flying from London to Perth to meet my natural father for the first time. I was adopted at three months of age and when I was 28 I found him through his sister in London after visiting his childhood home. He is a musician, funnily enough. I’ve been teaching music since I was 16. You could say that music, quite literally, is in my blood.

At the time I was flying from London to Perth to meet him I recall listening to his inflight New Age recordings. I knew he had a contract with British Airways to have his own music channel on there.

This memory came back to me after listening to his recent composition that he wrote after the terrorist attacks in Paris. It got me thinking about the power and healing properties of music. I posted this quote recently

“This will be our reply to violence:
to make music more intensely,
more beautifully,
more devotedly than ever before.”
― Leonard Bernstein

The thing I LOVE about music, and I love even more now, is that this stuff is quite literally something I was born to be doing. The lineage is there. The passion is there.

Music is SUCH a POWERFUL tool. It’s why open air malls play music. It’s why shopping centres do. Schools do.

Music is in YOUR blood and bones, too.

Just embrace it.

xx
