Do you ever feel like your ‘To Do’ is endless? A bottomless pit of never- ending tasks? That’s exactly how I was feeling last Sunday when I made the decision to create a different system to manage personal tasks, business activities, committee work and church group admin.
For years, I have been using a simple planner that allows me to plot tasks against each day of the week. However, as with many things, once I stopped using it, it has been difficult to reestablish the habit. When I would try, my list had grown so long it seemed almost impossible. I was drowning in my list of things to do!
So, as I sat there on Sunday wondering how I could
get back on track, it suddenly dawned on me that there were tasks listed that I could take action on immediately, while many other tasks were pending as something else out of my control needed to happen before I could action them. So the simple, even elegant soloution, if I may say so, was to create a pending column for each area! BINGO! Problem solved and once I had sorted the list accordingly, I felt so much lighter and ready to attack the tasks I could take care of immediately.
Sometimes it just takes a mindset tweak to move through perceived obstacles. Every single problem on this planet has a solution. That’s what I love about teaching this ground-breaking piano approach. I have spoken to so many people who don’t want to go back to methods that they used when learning piano as a child.
They found that way laborious and got so sick of scales! They tell me how they just couldn’t see the wood for the trees. It was so overwhelming. That system seemed to be constructed on the premise that every single person was going to become a concert pianist on the world stage! There was too much to think about at once before you could even navigate your fingers around the keyboard.
So, just like I did on Sunday, sometimes we need to take a step back and find a different system. A system that frees us up from stress. A system that actually works and allows you to move out of stagnation into a world of purpose and vision.
A system that allows a sense of momentum and PROGRESS. I once heard someone say that the key to happiness is progress.
If we feel like we are ROCKSTARS at the piano, that’s what will keep us coming back each day.
You want to PLAY again.
You want to FEEL music in your bones again.
You want to play easily and fluently without having to always squint up at the notes.
You want to IMPRESS with your incredible playing.
You want heads to turn with surprised expressions on their faces
when you play.
You want to have your own little band where you can share your incredible musical talent with others.
Just imagine accompanying one of your friends singing at a family gathering. What if you could play Happy Birthday to your husband.
What would it be like to communicate the love you have for your community through music?
Perhaps you would like to play at a nursing home or a school but you never learned chords.
Whatever it is, I know this deep, deep desire has been lurking in your subconscious for a while. It’s time to take action!
