Other Policies

General Agreement Information

With Simply Music lessons, certain policies are noted on the Student Enrolment Form. Rhythm & Tunes Piano School has chosen to adopt those policies, and they have been integrated here for reference along with additional studio policies. Students will be referred to here as “Participant(s).” The person responsible for the business relationship with Rhythm & Tunes Piano School will be referred to as the “Patron,” and this person may or may not also be a Participant.

Tuition Payments

Payment for any Lesson Cycle or part thereof, is made prior to commencement. In order to continue securing your regularly scheduled time, fees for each successive Cycle must be paid prior to commencement of the next Cycle. Fees that are paid after the due date will attract a service charge. This can also result in your time being forfeited.

Unless otherwise arranged, Lesson Cycles will be South Australian school terms, and tuition for each term will be due by the Friday prior to the commencement of the school term. Late fees will be calculated at $10.00 per enrolled Participant per week. Participants will be permitted to resume lessons only after payment has been caught up. Extenuating circumstances will be considered at the discretion of Rhythm & Tunes Piano School.

Methods of payment are Credit Card or EFT - Direct Credit.

Attendance, Cancellations, Makeups and Refunds

When you enrol into lessons, you are paying to secure a specific time, on a specific day. This is your time that you are paying for, and this time is set aside, for the entire Lesson Cycle, as your exclusive time. As such, classes missed for any reason cannot be credited, nor made up.

When a shared lesson is missed, the preferred method of catching up is for a Participant to contact another Participant who shares the lesson in order to learn what new material was covered.

Rhythm & Tunes Piano School may also cancel certain lessons in advance as a result of planned vacations or other commitments and will strive to provide as much advance notice of these cancellations as possible. In all cases that Rhythm & Tunes Piano School cancels a lesson, prepaid tuition will be made up by scheduling a make up lesson.

Either Rhythm & Tunes Piano School or the Patron may decide to end participation in lessons for any reason and at any time. Upon dissolution of participation by the Patron, any remaining prepaid tuition is forfeited. Upon dissolution by Rhythm & Tunes Piano School will provide the Patron with a refund of the value of any remaining lesson(s) not yet completed.

Lessons are non-transferrable.

Lesson Schedule

Lessons vary in length from approximately 25-50 minutes based on how many Participants may be sharing the lesson. Lessons take place weekly at a regular day and time agreed upon between Rhythm & Tunes Piano School and the Participant. Alternate durations and schedules will be considered at the discretion of Rhythm & Tunes Piano School.

Punctuality is extraordinarily important. The Participant must arrive for lessons on time and no earlier than five minutes before the indicated start time. If the Participant will be more than five minutes late for a lesson, notice via telephone must be provided prior to the lesson start time. In the case of a late arrival, whether or not notice has been provided, the situation will be handled at the discretion of Rhythm & Tunes Piano School.

If the Participant is not the Patron, the Patron is required to attend the lesson, whether the lesson is conducted online or in person, and help hold the Participant accountable for assigned material and practice during the subsequent week.

From time to time, for various reasons, it may be necessary to move participant(s) to another, more suitable, group.

If the number of participants in a group falls below 4, Rhythm & Tunes Piano School reserves the right to cease lessons, at the end of the current lesson cycle, until another group, with 4 or more participants can be formed, at the same level.

Materials

All Participants are required to purchase their own set of lesson materials, as appropriate to the Participant’s progress through the program.

The Participant must bring to each lesson the complete set of current materials.

If a Participant has materials they no longer intend to use in lessons or otherwise, the Patron may make these materials available for other Participants. Rhythm & Tunes Piano School will endeavour to find other Participants to make use of them but makes no promises that they can or will be used. Any compensation requests will remain between Participants/Patrons exclusively.

Practice

Participants will be expected to agree to and maintain a schedule of regular and consistent practice throughout each week, generally 15-20 minutes per day, 5-6 days per week, at the same time of day, including practicing newly assigned material later on in the day of the lesson itself to reinforce what was learned. Participants must maintain their playlist, both the repertoire itself as well as the tracking chart.

There is no maximum suggested daily practice time. It is recommended that a Participant who is motivated to practice beyond what has been agreed to be allowed to do so without bound.

Participants benefit from mastering skills and knowledge before trying to build on them. The Simply Music method in particular is based on this approach. Participants are therefore strongly discouraged from skipping ahead, in lesson materials or otherwise, beyond the level of content that has been formally assigned during lessons.

Except for skipping ahead as just described, it is highly recommended that a Participant who is motivated to spend any additional time involved with music beyond the assigned material, especially at the piano but otherwise as well, be allowed to do so without bound.
